Major Tom wins big at the W3 and Web Excellence Awards

At the W3 Awards—one of the premier awards recognizing digital excellence across web, marketing, video, and more—our work, and our specific approach, earned four big wins:

And at the Web Excellence Awards — recognizing global creativity, innovation, and dedication across the industry that meant three additional wins:

  • An award for The Giants of Africa Festival in the Social Media Cause Awareness, DEI, Non-Profit, Sports category
  • An award for Corix in the Website: Services and Utilities category
  • And an award for Corix in Brand Strategy

Turning audience insights into strategic success

Take the gold-medal campaign for the CPKC Women’s Open. Working together, Major Tom’s paid media, analytics, and strategy experts dug into the data behind previous successes — all while accounting for a new venue and radically different Vancouver audience. 

These findings informed an approach that helped drive a 43% increase in ticket sales year over year. 

Similarly, the organic social media campaign for the Giants of Africa Festival 2023 leveraged its raw excitement and emotion to speak to a highly invested, highly enthusiastic audience. 

Not only did carefully planned promotion on Instagram and TikTok deliver huge reach (to the tune of 1.1 million organic impressions), but it did so efficiently: using entirely organic social without paid media amplification.

That approach wouldn’t work for every client — but Major Tom’s social media experts knew it was perfect for our longtime partners at GOA.  

Finally, careful research into the real estate industry informed a counterintuitive approach for SaleFish: be blunt. Instead of imitating its competitors and sticking with received industry wisdom about professionalism and polish, Major Tom helped create a new tone of voice that would speak directly to SaleFish’s audience.  

Bringing this voice to life was a collaboration between Major Tom’s skilled creative specialists. But it also took a lot of trust from our partners at SaleFish. The results? SaleFish’s new brand voice stood out from a sea of competitors for W3 recognition.

The power of partnership with Corix

Most of all, our work with Corix (netting 4 award wins across web development and brand strategy) demonstrates what our teams can accomplish when they come together in service of our clients. 

Representing an in-depth collaboration between experts in brand strategy, UX, copy, design, and development, Major Tom worked to relaunch Corix’s newly independent thermal energy business with a best-in-class brand and user-focused new website.

Starting with in-depth research into Corix themselves (along with their competitors, their audiences, and the industry at large), the Major Tom teams collaborated on a plan to get Corix from where they were to where they wanted to be.

First, that meant a new brand foundation, values, voice, and visual identity — all to help Corix refocus their story and ensure they were connecting with the right audiences. As the new Corix came to life, the UX and web teams began planning out a site that would serve as the strongest possible introduction to the new brand. 

Working together, along with ongoing input from Corix’s core team, Major Tom was able to build a cohesive, focused approach that would proudly announce Corix’s position as a leader in low-carbon infrastructure.
